The Orion line of camera cranes can be mounted to tripod heads that are capable of supporting the total weight of the crane system.

You'll find 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes on the bottom of the crane's tripod mount. This is the area of the fulcrum of the crane. Simply use the quick release plate that comes with your tripod head and screw in one or both of the quick release plate screws into the crane's tripod mount. Often, tripod heads include both sizes of screws and we recommend using both if available for maximum stability.

Our Camera Crane Stand is an economical option to mount your Orion Camera Crane. It includes a sturdy all aluminum mounting bracket.

Also called the 3/8 Bearing Mount, this is a mounting option that provides smooth 360 degree pans for use on tripod legs. It can also be mounted to the Crane Stand.

Proper balancing is the most important aspect of camera crane operation. Do not underestimate this!

Counterweight required can generally be determined by the fulcrum's position on the crane. This creates a ratio or front to back weight. For example, on our 8 foot Orion DVC210, the crane extends 36 inches backwards from the tripod mount (the fulcrum.) It then extends 60 inches forwards to the camera mount. This creates a 36/60 ratio, or 1/1.66. Now by making this ratio equal on both sides, we'll balance the crane. If you mount a 4 pound camera, you'll need 1.6 times the weight on the opposite side.
